Every child deserves the foundation of strong literacy skills, and parents and caregivers play a crucial role in nurturing their children’s reading journey. However, many families face a common challenge: they want to support their child’s literacy development at home but lack the knowledge and confidence to do so effectively.
Through comprehensive literacy focus groups conducted in FY25, Great MN Schools identified a critical need in our communities. Parents and caregivers consistently expressed two key sentiments: a strong desire to help their children succeed in reading, coupled with uncertainty about how children actually learn to read and hesitation to engage without proper guidance.
The Minnesota Literacy Coalition is excited to launch this critical work. We are seeking proposals from qualified individuals, organizations, or collaborative teams to design and deliver engaging, culturally-responsive, and accessible learning experiences for parents and caregivers. These programs should build knowledge, confidence, and practical strategies to support literacy development at home, ultimately transforming families into informed literacy advocates for their children.
